Following many years of negotiation, the National Trust acquired this site in the Coastal National Park in order to return it to nature. Previously the site of a holiday camp, the existing buildings were in an exceptionally poor state of repair and were riddled with asbestos. A fire on the site prior to acquisition had caused further structural damage and distributed asbestos around the site.
Colin Smith Partnership managed the project from acquisition to full return to nature, working with States Departments including environmental, planning, department for infrastructure and the local Parishes to resolve the many challenges that this project involved.
The result is a pristine headland which can now be used for recreation for future generations. The completed project was featured on the BBC’s Countryfile programme and received a Jersey Construction Award for Project of the Year.
